Explain the law of supply. What are the factors affecting the supply of commodity?

The law of supply states that, all else being equal, as the price of a good or service increases, the quantity supplied by producers increases, and vice versa. In simpler terms, producers are willing to supply more of a good or service at higher prices and less at lower prices.

Factors affecting the supply of a commodity include:

1. Input prices: The cost of raw materials, labor, and other inputs needed to produce the commodity.
2. Technology: Advancements in technology can increase efficiency and lower production costs, thus affecting supply.
3. Number of sellers: More sellers entering the market can increase supply, while fewer sellers can decrease it.
4. Expectations: Future expectations about prices can influence current supply decisions.
5. Government policies: Taxes, subsidies, regulations, and other policies can affect the cost of production and thus supply.
6. Weather and natural disasters: These can impact agricultural production and supply.
Prices of related goods: The prices of substitutes and complements can influence supply decisions.
7. Productivity: Changes in productivity, such as improved farming techniques, can affect the supply of agricultural products.
